Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
We believe treating depression with therapy and medication is an essential start for long-lasting change. However, for some individuals struggling with Major Depressive Disorder — that is treatment resistant or that is associated with acute suicidal ideation — these alone may not be enough. We provide innovative, evidence-based and personalized care for these forms of depression through TMS, Spravato® and Ketamine.
During a TMS session, understimulated nerve cells in your brain are targeted and activated with a magnetic pulse. These cells are directly correlated with mood control and depression, making the treatment very effective. In fact, Brainsway TMS has three FDA-cleared indications backed by pivotal clinical studies (1). One of those studies demonstrated a 75% response rate in TMS reducing depressive symptoms and 50% experiencing remission (2). This is a significantly higher response rate compared to traditional oral antidepressants (3).
Most appointments last less than 30 minutes, no additional monitoring is needed and you are able to drive yourself home after the appointment. The treatments are painless and have little to no side effects.
TMS is covered by most insurances.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
“I undertook TMS therapy with Dr Fraleigh to treat my long-running severe depression. I tolerated the therapy well, with very few side effects. One of the most attractive things about this therapy to me was that I was able to continue to work during treatment.
The staff at Coral Mountain were very attentive and easy to work with. I couldn’t recommend them or this therapy enough. They worked closely with my other physicians which impressed me. Scheduling was easy and I consider TMS with Dr. Fraleigh and her staff to be one of the best investments I have ever made to my personal health.”
Spravato® (Esketamine) CIII
Spravato is an FDA-approved medical nasal spray that is taken in conjunction with an oral antidepressant, primarily, to treat MDSI and TRD. It works by increasing a neurotransmitter (glutamate) in the body which improves the brains ability to function and self-regulate (4).
The treatment is completed through 14 sessions over the course of three months, with additional maintenance visits offered if needed. Positive results are noticeable by four weeks after the first treatment (5).
During treatment, a prescribed dose of Spravato is self-administered and patients are monitored for two hours by one of our medical assistants to ensure the best quality of care. Common side effects such as nausea, sedation, dissociation and increased blood pressure can occur immediately after ingestion, which usually subside within two hours. Before the patient can leave the clinic, a trusted family member or caregiver must assist them home. It is recommended you rest for the remainder of the day after receiving treatment.
Spravato is covered by most insurances.
“I have been struggling with, and attempting to control, my anxiety and depression for the past 16 years. I had tried practically everything legal, and was losing hope. I started working with Dr. Fraleigh when I was accepted for a therapy that had great results for most people, but didn’t work at all for me. Part way through that treatment period, I met with Dr. Fraleigh, very discouraged and feeling hopeless. At that time she told me about Spravato, and the very broad positive results for patients who tried it. She told me, “[my current treatment] is not the end of the road for you. There are other options.” I really needed to hear that!
I started the Spravato treatment several months later, I was very hesitant going in, afraid to get my hopes up. But after the FIRST session, I could feel a difference. My husband told me he noticed a difference in my demeanor. I was treated with Spravato for six and a half months, and it has been an honest to God miracle for me. Where nothing else had worked before — IT DID.”
Intramuscular (IM) Ketamine Therapy
Ketamine is a common dissociative anesthetic that has been routinely used in hospitals and clinics for more than 50 years. It is used for several medicinal purposes and is considered to be safe and effective. In fact, it has a lower impact than most common antidepressants such as SSRI’s or MAOI’s (6).
(IM) Ketamine is administered in low doses into the deltoid muscle. During the treatment, patients may experience a euphoric or hallucinogenic experience due to its dissociative properties. Ketamine — like Spravato — affects the NMDA receptors in the brain to increase glutamate in the body and improve depressive symptoms.
While (IM) Ketamine is currently not FDA approved, it has been rigorously tested and studied (7). Researchers have found it to be safe and effective in low doses — in conjunction with psychotherapy — to treat severe anxiety and depression.
While similar to Spravato, which is FDA approved and paid by most insurances, (IM) Ketamine is not. The initial intake can be covered by insurance, but the medication and monitoring (which last 12 treatments over three months) is $250 out-of-pocket per visit.
“Coral Mountain is beyond exceptional. Dr. Fraleigh is personable, compassionate, and one of the most experienced medical professionals I have ever seen. She has been essential in getting me where I want be with my mental health.”
